When the Church requested songs on the priesthood, they specifically asked for those with the message that “all of us – including girls and boys – are blessed through God’s priesthood, [and that we] unitedly participate in the work of salvation.” I knew this sense of equality, unity, and shared purpose was an important part of this song. I again did SO much research to find something that would be really impactful for girls to see just how included they are in God’s priesthood power.
I found the following scripture, and (though I was concerned my resulting lyric might be risky) I knew I had my answer. It comes from the Doctrine and Covenants when Joseph Smith is teaching about the Celestial Kingdom, “In the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees; and in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage];” D&C 131:1-2
For some reason, I had never heard of temple marriage referred to that way – as an order of the priesthood – and the truth brought me so much joy and understanding. Though only males hold offices and keys in the priesthood, all that preparation is simply to bring women and men to the point where they can enter together into the highest order of the priesthood, also known as the patriarchal order of the priesthood, as Barbara Morgan Gardner explains so eloquently in her book, The Priesthood Power of Women.
From this, I wrote the following line, “In his holy temples, all are endowed and are sealed as families in the highest priesthood order that is found, blessed with endless joy and peace.”
I love the way our vocalist, Ella Brammer (back center), sings the word “joy” in this still frame from the music video. We hope all girls who hear or sing this song will feel this same joy and excitement as they contemplate their part and purpose on the covenant path.
