This illustration just blew us away when we got it back! It was amazing to see a sketch, so mediocre and simple, turn into such a vibrant, light-filled, emotion-filled depiction of what must have been a very miraculous moment!
This illustration also shows how we had to take some creative license in our story. The tomb they currently believe may have been the tomb of our Savior, Jesus Christ, has an initial entrance chamber called the antechamber, or weeping chamber (see final image).
We researched and talked extensively on how we wanted to portray this moment and ultimately decided that putting the linens in a second room beyond the initial entrance would be confusing for children. We did, however, keep the small window and used that element to create a dramatic illumination of the sacred cloths.
The Bible is also not consistent on when the women saw an angel or on how many angels they saw. We simplified to what we thought was the most common or most concise version of the story. If only we could know for certain what had happened or been there ourselves!
